Hillingdon Play Association (HPA) is a voluntary organisation which advocates and supports, promotes, and coordinates the provision of quality play opportunities for children and young people in the London Borough of Hillingdon. Children’s freedom to play outdoors has become greatly restricted in terms of time, space and permission. HPA exists to remind people that playful communities are healthy communities.
Over the past few years HPA has organised a Summer of Play for children in some of the most deprived areas, its playdays drawing in children and families into local parks and green spaces. HPA also organises projects on housing estates throughout the year, to demonstrate that children need to play out every day, come rain or shine. Through a light-touch training programme HPA has created dozens of play ambassadors to spread the play message into communities.
